Zoomies - Adoption Event

Event Launch - Student Project

Problem
Covid-19 and the multiple lockdowns caused a spike in animal adoptions,
leaving local rescue organisations with empty kennels. The spike in redundancies during this period resulted in poor mental health for New Zealanders, meaning many of these impulse animal adoptions were reconsidered. Employment
levels and people’s job security stabilised, however, many New Zealanders continue to have poor mental health and struggle with depression. This leaves us with a mental health crisis and an influx of dogs needing to be rehomed.

Solution
Wellington City Council's solution to these problems is to hold a dog speed-dating adoption event to encourage people to rescue dogs. People will
be able to spend time with each dog and find their best match or just
come along to make some new furry friends. This event will help to boost endorphins by interacting with animals and promote positive participation in the community. It will cater to the needs of different target audiences while also reflecting the dog culture and diversity of the Wellington Region.
